What changed, and what to test.

Every beta build of DUNA, newest first — the same notes TestFlight shows, with the questions we most want answered. Each build keeps everything from the ones before it.

Build 22 · v0.22 · latest

Build 22

DUNA 0.22 build 22. Runs on iOS/iPadOS 17.6 now, a cut-off sheet in AUM is fixed, deleting a lane explains what it was sending, a RANDOM curve preset, and the AUM walkthrough gained a step it was missing. Everything from build 20 still applies.

17.6 Support

DUNA now runs on iOS/iPadOS 17.6, not just 18.4. Two small pieces (the theme-switch scroll fix, the piano roll's note coloring) were rebuilt to not need anything newer; nothing else changed.

Please testIf you are on 17.6 or 17.x generally, does DUNA install and run normally? Switch themes a few times and check the rack keeps its scroll position.

Destination Sheet Cut Off In AUM

Reported: opening a lane's rename/destination sheet in AUM was cut off in half, with no way to reach the rest. The sheet was a fixed height with no scroll, and AUM often gives a plug-in a short strip — everything past the CC number (channel, REMOVE, the shortcut tip) was unreachable. DONE now stays pinned at the top; everything else scrolls.

Please testOpen a lane's destination sheet in AUM (and in a short window generally) — can you reach REMOVE and the bottom of the sheet now?

Deleting A Lane

DUNA's engine stops sending the instant a lane is deleted — confirmed directly, nothing lingers on DUNA's side. What can linger is outside DUNA's reach: a MIDI Learn binding made in your host stays in the host, since no plug-in can see or remove another app's mappings. The delete confirmation now says what the lane was sending, so you know what to go unmap in your host if you want to.

Please testDoes the message make sense at the moment you delete a lane?

Random Curve Preset

A RANDOM button next to RAMP/PEAK/DIP/FLAT in the curve editor — rolls an organic curve (3 to 6 points, gentle bends) instead of a blank page to draw from. Same are-you-sure guard the first time; once you're looking at a random roll, tapping again just tries another one straight away.

Please testDoes it give you something worth drawing from? Does REROLL feel right, and does it get out of your way the moment you touch the plot by hand?

AUM Walkthrough Fixed

A tester's own AUM setup showed DUNA's output needs to be connected to BOTH the instrument AND AUM's built-in MIDI Control, not just the instrument — without that second connection, AUM's own MIDI Learn never sees the sweep. The Quick Start and the manual now say so.

Please testIf you use AUM, does the corrected walkthrough get MIDI LEARN working for you? If you use Loopy Pro, apeMatrix, Audiobus or Cubasis, does any of those need something similar — a second connection beyond the instrument — to make MIDI Learn see a lane?

Known Limits

  • If you never press play in your host, nothing plays until you do.
  • NOTES counts bars as 4 beats, whatever the host's time signature.

Build 20 · v0.20

Build 20

DUNA 0.20 build 20. One fix: the curve editor's fine adjust no longer wobbles. Everything from build 19 still applies.

Curve Editor Fine Adjust

Reported as "wobbly, hard to use." Holding a second finger down for fine adjust could make a point or bend handle jump instead of moving smoothly — a bug in how the touch handler told two fingers apart, not the drawing itself. Fixed: a still second finger is now a true no-op, and lifting the drawing finger first (with the fine-adjust finger still down) ends the drag properly instead of leaving it stuck.

Please testDrag a point or a bend handle with a second finger down for fine adjust — does it track smoothly now? Try lifting the fingers in either order. This could not be tested on the simulator (it needs two real fingers), so first reports from a device are the ones we need most.

Known Limits

  • Same as build 19: if you never press play in your host, nothing plays until you do.
  • NOTES counts bars as 4 beats, whatever the host's time signature.

Build 19 · v0.19

Build 19

DUNA 0.19 build 19. DUNA now follows your host's transport. Everything from build 18 still applies.

Follows The Host Transport

DUNA now stops when your host stops. Lanes hold still, the arp lets notes straight through, NOTES goes quiet and nothing is left ringing. When the host plays, everything starts again from its bars: all lanes, the arp and the loop. The header badge says STOPPED while it is holding still. MIDI LEARN still works with the transport stopped. Recording into NOTES waits for the host to roll. With no host transport (standalone) DUNA keeps its own clock.

Please testStop and start the host mid-phrase — any stuck notes or missed restarts? Does anything still move while stopped? Does it feel right in AUM if you never roll the transport (nothing plays until you do)?

Known Limits

  • If you never press play in your host, nothing plays until you do. That is the point of this change, and the one to tell us if it feels wrong.
  • The piano roll's play button follows the host too: with the host stopped it is armed but silent.
  • NOTES counts bars as 4 beats, whatever the host's time signature.

Build 18 · v0.18

Build 18

DUNA 0.18 build 18. Longer NOTES loops, and a piano roll with room to work on an iPhone. Everything from build 17 still applies.

Longer Loops

NOTES loops now go up to 32 and 64 bars, and x2 keeps doubling until 64. A loop can hold up to 2048 notes (was 512). A long loop opens on its first eight bars, and while you record, the roll scrolls along with the playhead so the notes you are playing stay in view.

Please testRecord a long part — does it stay in time all the way round? Does the roll follow smoothly, and never jump while your finger is on it? Does a big, busy loop stay responsive?

Piano Roll On Iphone

On iPhone the editor now opens full screen instead of as a sheet. Rows are bigger, so notes are easier to hit and show their names, and the view starts on your notes — scroll for the rest. ON, length, channel, OVERDUB and REC Q moved to the end of the scrolling button row (they are still on the NOTES panel), which gives the roll more height.

Please testTap EDIT on an iPhone — does it open full screen, and does DONE close it? Rotate while it is open (especially a Max model) — does it stay open? Anything still cramped in portrait?

PLAY, Stop And Quant

The piano roll has a play/stop button (or Space). When DUNA runs on its own clock — host stopped, or the standalone app — PLAY starts the loop from bar 1. With the host's transport rolling, it plays in time with the host. The roll now opens in SELECT, so a tap never adds a note by accident. QUANT works on every note when nothing is selected — no need to select all first. Its label says QUANT ALL or QUANT SEL, and it tells you how many notes it moved (small nudges are hard to see).

Please testDoes PLAY start where you expect, with the host stopped and with it running? Does QUANT ALL do what you want to a whole take?

NOTES In A Host

The ? sheet and the online manual now explain how to record notes inside a host: connect your keyboard INTO DUNA (not straight to the synth), and DUNA's output to the synth. DUNA passes what you play on, so you still hear it. Steps are exact for AUM, and general for the other hosts.

Please testDoes that routing work in your host? If you use Loopy Pro, apeMatrix, Audiobus or Cubasis, tell us where the MIDI routing menus are.

Safer Sessions

A session saved by a newer build of DUNA now opens even if it uses a loop length or setting this build does not know. And if the NOTES part of a save is damaged, only the loop is lost — your lanes still come back.

Please testDo your saved sessions and presets from build 17 still open with everything in place?

Known Limits

  • Build 17 cannot open a session saved with a 32 or 64 bar loop. If you go back to build 17, keep loops at 16 bars or less.
  • NOTES counts bars as 4 beats, whatever the host's time signature.
  • In the standalone app, hardware notes are recorded but not passed through, and still do not reach the arp.

Build 17 · v0.17

Build 17

DUNA 0.17 build 17. The big one is NOTES: DUNA can now record and play back MIDI notes, with a full piano roll to edit them. Plus a new theme, a global mute, and a lot of polish. Everything from build 4 still applies.

NOTES — Record And Play

A new block in the rack. It holds a 1-16 bar loop of notes, locked to the same beat as your lanes, on its own MIDI channel. Press REC and play — from your host's keyboard, from hardware (standalone app), or from the 2-octave keyboard in the panel (chords work, slide for a run, strike lower on a key for louder). Held notes grow on screen. OVERDUB adds to the loop, REPLACE clears it when your first note lands. Q snaps what you play to a grid.

Please testDoes what you played land where you played it? Any stuck notes — stopping REC mid-note, muting, deleting a note while it rings, or an all-notes-off from the host? Does it stay in time in AUM and Loopy Pro?

Piano Roll

Tap the loop or EDIT. DRAW: tap to add, drag to size, tap a note to delete it. SELECT: tap, drag to move, drag a note's right end to resize, drag empty space to box-select. ERASE: drag across notes. Paint velocity in the strip underneath. QUANT, transpose, DUP, LEGATO, x2 (double the loop) and DELETE act on the selection, or on everything if nothing is selected. Undo/redo. Two fingers scroll, pinch zooms, trackpad works on Mac. Keyboard shortcuts on iPad and Mac (see the ? sheet).

Please testDoes drawing and dragging feel right under a finger? Does a two-finger scroll ever leave a stray note behind? Anything cramped on a small phone or in an AUM strip?

SUMI Theme

A fifth theme: black ink on washi paper, hand-drawn borders, one red for anything armed or destructive.

Please testIs everything readable in all five themes, including the piano roll? Switching themes should now keep your scroll position.

MUTE

The speaker icon in the header silences every lane, the arp and NOTES at once, and tapping it again brings everything back exactly as it was.

Please testDoes anything still sound while muted? Does anything come back wrong?

The Rack

  • ARP, the XY pad and NOTES have grips now, so everything reorders the same way lanes do.
  • Lanes can fold down to one line.
  • Lanes have a trash icon. Delete, clear and curve-preset buttons now ask first (SURE?) instead of acting on one tap.

Please testDoes reordering and folding survive a save and reload?

Recording + The Pad

REC is now an icon in the header; the fader row only appears while armed. A PAD X / PAD Y lane now records the pad's own motion (finger or bound controller), not the fader. The pad's path has a direction: FWD, REV, PING, RND.

Also

  • DUNA follows the system text size, within a smaller range.
  • Fixed portrait layouts that were cramped or clipped on iPhone.
  • The standalone app now fills the whole screen on iPhone.
  • The header no longer jitters as BPM and traffic numbers change.

Known Limits

  • NOTES counts bars as 4 beats, whatever the host's time signature.
  • In the standalone app, hardware notes are recorded but not passed through, and still do not reach the arp.
  • AUM and Loopy Pro walkthroughs are still from their docs, not a tested run. Corrections wanted.
  • No device profiles yet: destinations are CC numbers.

Build 4 · v0.4

Build 4

DUNA 0.4 build 4. First beta. DUNA draws automation curves and sends them as MIDI, so any parameter of any plug-in in any host — and any hardware synth — can be moved in time with your music. It makes no sound of its own. AUv3 MIDI plug-in plus a standalone app, one purchase, iOS / iPadOS / macOS.

How It Works

A plug-in cannot reach into another plug-in, so DUNA sends MIDI and the host maps it. Load DUNA in a MIDI slot, start your host's MIDI learn on the knob you want, press MIDI LEARN on a lane — it sweeps the range so the learn catches it — then switch the lane ON.

Please testDo these steps work in AUM? In Loopy Pro, apeMatrix, AudioBus, Drambo, Cubasis? Which menu names are wrong?

Lanes

A fresh rack holds one of each kind — drawn curve, LFO, PAD X, PAD Y — so the rack itself shows what the app can do. Up to 16, added from ADD LANE, which asks what kind you want with a live preview. Drag a lane's grip to reorder it.

Please testDoes the rack make sense with nothing read? Does reordering feel right under a finger?

Curve Editor

Tap CURVE on a lane. Tap to add a point, drag to move it, drag the ring on a segment to bend it, hold a point to delete. PENCIL draws freehand and tidies the stroke on release; ERASE rubs out everything you drag over.

Please testDoes drawing respond immediately? Does the tidy-up eat a shape you meant to keep?

Recording

One button, REC. Arm a lane, move the record fader (or a knob via LEARN CC) — it writes only while you are actually touching it.

Please testDoes a recorded pass line up with playback, and does the loop wrap cleanly?

The ARP

DUNA can arpeggiate for synths that have none. 8 patterns, 1/4 to 1/64 with triplets, 1-4 octaves, HOLD, gate, swing, ratchets, accents. Off means notes pass straight through.

Please testLocks to the host transport? Any stuck notes, especially off mid-phrase or on an all-notes-off from the host?

The XY Pad

The pad sends nothing itself — it just sits at an X/Y position. Point a lane's source at PAD X or PAD Y to follow it. PLAY = your finger is the position live; DRAW = a path it walks on its own, in a loop. New: LEARN X / LEARN Y binds a hardware knob or joystick to it, like LEARN CC does for the record fader.

Please testDoes the pad fight the rack's scroll? Does a bound controller feel responsive and release cleanly when you stop moving it?

Resolution + Traffic

Tap a lane's CC chip to cycle CC / CC14 / HI-RES (pitch bend, 16384 steps, no stepping). The number in the header is outgoing MIDI per second — grey is safe, amber is past what a hardware cable carries, red is heavy.

Please testIs a slow HI-RES sweep actually smooth on your synth?

Standalone — Connect

The Mac and iOS app publish a virtual MIDI port and can send straight into other apps, with an activity dot per connection.

Please testDoes CONNECT list your devices, and do the dots track real traffic?

Themes

Four now: DUSK/DAYLIGHT in colour, BASALT/GYPSUM in pure greyscale (the new system-follow defaults). Theme chip cycles all four.

Please testAnything unreadable? In greyscale — can you tell lanes apart, and is a destructive control still obviously destructive without red?

Presets

PRESETS saves a named bank of lanes, shared between app and plug-in. Inside a host, the session already saves your lanes on its own.

Please testSave a preset in the app, does it show up in the plug-in? Save an AUM / Logic session with DUNA in it, do the lanes come back on reload?

Known Limits

  • The AUM and Loopy Pro walkthroughs (in the ? sheet and the online manual) are written from each host's documentation, not yet from a tested run. Corrections wanted.
  • No device profiles yet: destinations are CC numbers, not named parameters.
  • No node / routing map view yet — lanes and the XY pad only.
  • Per-lane routing to separate destinations is not in yet; one MIDI stream carries every lane.
  • Home-screen name reads "DUNA AUv3" because plain "DUNA" is taken on the store.
